Heroes in Cybershards are typically built as in Fate Core. Use five aspects to define the character as described in the rules. Skills are also like the default skill pyramid, since that will give us exemplary heroes that really stand out far about the average person in Cybershards games. Stunts and Refresh are also as given for a default game.
However, Cybershards offers a number of special stunts. In addition, the skill list has been modified to accommodate a futuristic game and cyberpunk genre.
Use the following skill list in place of the one given in Fate Core. Those skills that are new or different are marked to indicate that.
- Academics (same as Lore. You can take stunts to reflect specialties such as cybernetics surgeon, paramedic, geneticist, etc.)
- Computers (like Lore, but covers all applications using computers and electronic warfare)
- Drive (same, but also applies to hovercraft)
- Pilot (new, same as Drive except applies to aircraft and even spacecraft)
- Notice (has expanded use in electronic warfare)
Like Lore, Computers is a skill that reflects knowledge. More specifically, it reflects knowledge of computers, networks, virtual space, hacking and all related subjects. In Cybershards, this skill can be used to break into systems, launch viral attacks and open virtual backdoors.
Overcome. Use Computers when you need to overcome security measures.
Create an Advantage. You can use this skill to place launch programs that aspects such as Password Cracker, Trojan Attack and others on enemy systems. You can even launch programs to place helpful aspects on yourself such as Cyber-Armor and Data Sword.
Attack. Using Computers to attack is possible. This would be a brute force attack (often utilizing "programs" that have placed aspects when creating advantages) against the Notice skill of whatever security program (typically built as a nameless character) or individual (possibly built as any kind of NPC). Stress done applies to the Mental stress track. When a Taken Out result occurs, then a result that makes sense for the setting occurs according to the wishes of the attacker.
Defend. This skill isn't typically used to defend, although aspects placed using Create an Advantage certainly can help. Use the Notice skill to avoid attacks launched by computers and the Computers skill.
