Loosely based on Byzantine styles in clothing, weapons, and armor, but with western and southern European influences as far as noble titles. Speech is referred to as "Avonian" and resembles Latin. Names are still built like late Roman names.

List of titles in use in the Principality of Rathport include the following, form greatest to least.

  • prince (your highness)
  • marquess/marchioness (my lord/lady, your lordship)
  • count/countess (lord/lady)
  • baron/baroness (lord/lady)
  • hereditary knight (sir/dame)
  • knight (sir/dame)
